held in Bridgewater
from July 24th - 29th, 2012 History: The first exhibition held in Bridgewater
occurred in 1891 in a facility known as the Drill Shed. Records from a
meeting held the following year show that the Lunenburg County Exhibition
was to be help in Bridgewater on the 5th and 6th of October under the
auspices of the Bridgewater Agricultural Society. Since then, the "Big
Ex" has continued to grow and now covers approximately 42 acres, which hosts
over 500 head of livestock, commercial booths, art and craft exhibits, and
the always popular 4H events. Now known as the South Shore Exhibition,
this event has taken place every year since 1891, with the exception of
1939, when the Canadian military took over the grounds to train the West
Nova Scotia Battalion. |
